Intimate Wedding Ideas

With recent events (looking at you COVID-19),  intimate weddings have become 2020’s newest trend. For couples who dreamed of a large party, planning an intimate wedding will be hard. To lift this burden, myself along with Lauren from Stone House Creative, have shared some intimate wedding ideas below. What do we want our sweet couples to take away from this? Lauren said it perfectly, “Above all, what I want you to come away with is this knowledge: even if you didn’t originally envisioned or plan an intimate wedding, that doesn’t mean that it’s not a wedding worth celebrating.”

Where to begin?

Lauren suggests, “What it’s all going to come down to is carefully designing a plan to treat your guests to an experience unlike any other.” If you could plan your perfect party, what would you have? With fewer guests, your rental and catering costs will decrease dramatically. This means that with each guest you’ll have an increased amount of budget to spend. Let’s face it: you may never have an opportunity to go “all out” like this ever again. So dream BIG!

Here are some of our must haves and tips for an intimate wedding celebration:

-Limited Personal Flowers: Ditch the wedding party flowers and just go with a bridal bouquet. If there is a special person you’d like to honor, then yes, by all means! However, I find that most of your floral budget will have a bigger impact elsewhere.

-Over the Top Ceremony Decor: Your ceremony is the most important part of your wedding day. Having an intimate wedding allows this part of the day to be even more special. Take a large portion of your floral budget and let’s make something amazing!

-Customized Table Decor: You’ll likely only have a few tables at your wedding, maybe even just one! This allows room in the budget to have a complete customized tablescape. Florals, candles, etc. You’ll spend most of your time here, so make the table a dream to look at!

Other important items we recommend:

-Petals (or some kind of eco-friendly confetti) for each guest to toss. After all this is a HUGE celebration!

-Live music. Nothing is more romantic that a string quartet playing music as you walk down the aisle.

-A catered dinner from your favorite restaurant with all the menu options. Have a three or four course meal! With the limited amount of guests, why not treat them to the best meal they’ve ever had!

Take Advantage of the Outdoors

Each state and country will have different guidelines and regulations, but most places are much more lenient with outdoor intimate weddings. Take advantage of a smaller venue with beautiful outdoor scenery to hold your wedding. Other options are a relative’s backyard, parks (if they allow it), or even an Airbnb! One of our couples choose a beautiful Airbnb property to hold her intimate wedding celebration. Their wedding became a weekend long celebration with their closest loved ones. When painted in this light, intimate weddings sound so dreamy, right?

Consider Eloping and Having the Party Later

This option is a great for those who are wanting to find middle ground. With this option you can still get married on your original date with those closest to you. In a year or two, you can then have a large celebration with everyone you love. We know that for some, having an intimate wedding is less than ideal. This way you get the best of both worlds. We have several couples who have chosen this option. In the end, our couples said that it’s a fun idea to celebrate twice!
