Wedding Floral Color Trends for 2021

There comes a time each year when inquiring couples ask, “What floral trends will be popular for next season?” Wedding floral color trends can create exciting discussions. I’m pleased to be tackling this topic with Jess from Gather Flower Studio. So, what will be the wedding floral color trends for 2021?

Going Straight to the Source

I took this question to Instagram, and the results were surprising. With 2020 being a heavy year emotionally, many wedding vendors are hoping to see bright and happy flower colors for 2021. Reds, yellows, with all shades of pinks were common answers.

Engaged couples felt similarly. With many events being rescheduled and postponed, couples are wanting their wedding day to be unique and special to them. Most couples are finding that their wedding day is more than just a date they are getting married on. They are realizing that the details matter and can express their love story and aesthetic.

What better way to do that than with flowers?

Color, Color, Color

As florists, we are absolutely thrilled that more couples are wanting color! This allows us to be creative and to do something different each weekend.

For me personally, I have seen many couples use cream as a base and accenting the rest of the palette with color. Whether that is with pastel, earthy, or bold tones. If colored flowers are out of your comfort zone, this is a great way to bring in some color gently.

Jess agrees and adds, “Color is making a comeback and I’ve noticed it’s in a complex way. For years, wedding design focused on a single (or two) color. There is now a desire to create palettes of color such as oranges and yellows mixed with pinks and reds or shades of light blue and lavender paired with crisp cobalt blue and vibrant greens. There are so many colors to be found in flowers and the opportunity to reach beyond a two-toned box is invigorating! Mixing an array of color also allows for a moment of relaxation in planning. There’s no stress over matching the colors of linens, dresses and blooms. It lends well to mismatched bridesmaid dresses and the variety of color provides a unique point of interest on your wedding day.”

A Year for Renewal

While we’ve been seeing many clients and vendors root for color, there is another perspective to consider. Because of COVID-19 many families will be struggling financially, mentally, and emotionally. An all white and green color palette can symbolize rebirth and renewal. White and green is a timeless color palette that will never go out of style. There may be many who unconsciously take comfort in that fact.
