A Quick Reference Guide for Wedding Boutonnieres
When it comes to wedding flowers, so many times couples focus on the bouquets and floral decor — and sometimes overlook one of my favorite parts: the boutonnieres!
That’s why I compiled some quick tips on how to choose the right boutonnieres, as well as how they should look when you wear them on the big day!
Which boutonnieres are best for our wedding?
Although the end result may vary in color or style, I always suggest going with a textural and modern look for a couple of reasons. Relying more on greenery for boutonnieres allows them to appear a little more masculine in style, and we can find a way to have them match or look similar to the greenery in the bouquets.
Using these accent textural bits from the other florals also helps them last longer throughout the day, and can withstand harsher weather (such as really hot or really cold wedding days) as well as all those hugs you’ll receive throughout the day!
Who should wear a boutonniere besides the groom?
Although this is ultimately up to you, at a minimum it looks nice to have all of the groomsmen wearing matching boutonnieres. Other individuals you may want to have wear one include the father of the bride, the father of the groom, any siblings not in the wedding party, and grandparents, if you so choose!
How to Wear a Boutonniere
First, make sure the boutonniere’s main flower or greenery is facing outwards. Then, using the lapel on the left side of the suit, hold up the boutonniere in the center of the folded fabric where the lapel is the broadest.
Other florists may say this is where you “pin” the boutonniere, but I use magnets! Not only are magnets better because you don’t get poked, but they are also sturdier so the boutonniere doesn’t move around loosely throughout the day.
