Today I’m excited to share with you a sneak preview into our proposal-making process for our couples! Since I know how overwhelming wedding planning can be, I aim to make it as easy as possible when it comes to narrowing down the floral arrangements and bouquet styles.

Each bride I work with gets the perfect ingredient list for their bouquet. This includes not only an explanation of each type of ingredient, but specific flowers and greenery that we’ll include to create a one-of-a-kind bouquet that completes your wedding-day look.

Greenery

When I start an arrangement, the first stems I grab are from greenery. Greenery helps provide the shape and overall fullness to a bouquet’s design.

And if I’m being completely honest, greenery is one of my favorites! Although it’s become more popular in recent years, I believe greenery is largely underused in the wedding floral industry.

Not only is greenery a cost-efficient option for budget-conscious couples, it also provides texture, color, and shape to every arrangement. The first step in getting that adventurous shape or organic vibe is to start with the greens.

Focal Blooms

Once I know the shake and feel I want to achieve, I grab the focal flowers. These guys are the yummy, mouthwatering, eye-candy blooms. They are the flowers that everyone wants for their wedding day.

They are the largest blooms in an arrangement and by placing them in first, I can get a better sense of the overall outcome of the design and avoid damaging the more delicate blooms later. These flowers “anchor” an arrangement. I make sure that their color, size, and shape are just perfect so we don’t overwhelm the viewer.

Accent Textural Blooms

I personally like to call this group of blooms “the secret ingredient,” because I feel like most florists don’t take enough advantage of these flowers. I love to have an organic and natural element in my arrangements.

These accent textural blooms can be soft and subtle like berries, or hard and rough like desert flowers. These blooms are usually tucked in or placed around the outer edges of an arrangement. They provide dimension and help add in that natural feel without being too overwhelming. You can read about some of my top choices for textural blooms here!

Accent Whimsy Blooms

These are the final elements that go into an arrangement. They are delicate, so I place them in last so they don’t get damaged. These blooms are soft, light, airy, gently blow in the wind, and create movement as you walk down the aisle.

These flowers are usually found dancing around at the top or sides of an arrangement. They help bring in that romantic and soft element all brides simply love!

The Final Touch

Sometimes the final details are most important. No bouquet, in my eyes, is ready until she has her ribbon on. Most brides don’t think about ribbon, but I believe it is one of the most important elements in making a bouquet go from “good” to “amazing!”

Ribbon allows movement and adds a sense of whimsy to your bouquet. The color of the ribbon will capture the soft and romantic elements in your bouquet and can also help tie in the rest of the wedding colors. The ribbon I use is hand-dyed from plants, allowing the color and feel to be organic and soft.
