Roots Floral Design’s Favorite Textural Blooms for Bouquets

There are several key ingredients to the perfect bouquet. Every bride should have a unique and romantic bouquet, and they wouldn’t quite be the same without textural blooms! Here are some of my top favorite combination choices for textural blooms and greenery that a little something extra to the finished product.

Privett Berry and Queen Anne’s Lace

Large blooms can be the main focus of overflowing bouquets, but it’s in the details that really can make a collection stand out. I love using the soft-looking Queen Anne’s lace and the small, rounded appearance of privett berry to give the bouquet a bit of contrast and variation (which you can see an example of in the image below).

Calcynia

Cancynia is a beautiful textural flowery plant that can provide that organic and garden overflowing look without losing a sense of elegance. It’s also a lovely way of making a bouquet a little more natural and asymmetrical, since these pieces extend beyond the overall shape the other larger blooms create.

Astrantia, Tallow Berries, Protea, and Seeded Eucalyptus

Going for a soft pink, cream and sage look? This combination is one of my favorites to achieve that color palette choice! Astrantia are smaller blooms with just the right amount of texture to add in between larger flowers. A dash of tallow berries also bring in a bit of cream and white in a shape that stands out from the others (as you can see in the bouquet below), and protea flowers are simply unlike anything else out there.

Cotinus

For a darker, contrasting option great for a moody look, I love using a bit of cotinus. It’s the purple-greenish textural bloom in the sample below. A beautiful choice for brides that want a bolder bouquet!

Astilbe, Seeded Eucalyptus and Hellebore

Seeded eucalyptus is always a top choice of mine for a soft green look to balance out brighter florals. Combined with white astilbe and hellebore, it’s a romantic style with a classic color palette any bride will love.

Astrantia, Scabiosa, Seeded Eucalyptus and Raspberries

This is another stunning combination that’s more for brides that love out-of-the-box styled bouquets and deeper colors. Placed among bigger flowers, astrantia and scabiosa make this bouquet look more complex, especially when paired with raspberries to offer a truly unique textured look.

Thistle, Queen Anne’s Lace, and Pieris Japonica

I love adding in thistle to bouquets as an interesting texture against softer florals. Bringing them in alongside Queen Anne’s lace and Pieris japonica (the thinner strands with little white blooms) creates a lovely bouquet that works well with boho and desert style weddings.

Hypericum Berries

If you can’t tell already, I’m a big fan of using a variety of berries in my floral designs. Hypericum berries are a great option to add in more colors and a unique texture to balance out the overall style of a bouquet.

Seeded Eucalyptus

As you may have already noticed after looking through the other textural blooms on this list, I use seeded eucalyptus quite often — but for good reason! It’s a beautiful shade of soft green that works well with a variety of other flowers and is a solid choice to add in more texture for bridal bouquets. It’s also a top option for brides considering greenery for tablescapes and ceremony installations as well!

“Kaytee is an absolute GEM! She has so much passion and care for what she does, that you feel like she's a friend more than a vendor. She walks you through each step of the floral process with organization, examples, cost, and detail -- all things that make my detail-oriented heart happy. The end result far exceeded anything we could have hoped for or imagined. ALL. THE. GREENERY. Future brides, run, don't walk to Roots for your wedding. From start to finish, she took care of every single floral need to make our day positively beautiful.”

FROM START TO FINISH, SHE TOOK CARE OF EVERY SINGLE FLORAL NEED.

"Kaytee became so much more than a vendor for us. The first time I met her I felt as though I met a long lost friend. She was the very first vendor I chose for the wedding (even before the venue) and she lived up to all my expectations and went above and beyond.  Each time I met with her I felt confident that she completely comprehended my wants and would fashion them into something that looks put together, yet natural. The day-of she silently transformed a bland rustic space into an enchanting, romantic barn. I couldn't have asked for anything more beautiful or unique."

THE FIRST TIME I MET HER I FELT AS THOUGH  I MET A LONG LOST FRIEND.

"Kaytee was so great to work with!!! I provided her with some floral inspirations from Pinterest and Instagram but gave her a lot of free rein coming up with the flowers for our wedding and she went above and beyond expectations. Our photographer was obsessed with all the bouquets and we got so many great pictures of them! She did such a good job making my smaller budget work to make high impact arrangements. She's also the sweetest person to be around!"
