Why Photography of Flowers Matter

Why Photography of Flowers Matter

When it comes to flowers, hearing that they are important from a florist seems a little biased. Although your wedding flowers are important; we thought hearing it from a wedding photographer may help convince. Cincinnati wedding photographer, Chelsey, from Chelsey and Jordan Photography, has provided great insight into the why when it comes to photography of flowers.

Why should I consider flowers alongside photography?

Consider your venue. Envision where you will say your vows. What is surrounding you, your spouse, and the officiant? Think about your reception space. Is it warm and vibrant? Cold and bare? Regardless if you like flowers or not, flowers can truly transform a space. Flowers are needed to fill empty spaces. Luckily, for most of our couples, flowers are much more than filling in an empty spot on a table. The flowers for our couples will help achieve an overall look and aesthetic. Our couples have a vision for their wedding day and know that flowers will be a large part in making that vision come to life. They care about the shape, size, and style of the arrangements. The floral ingredients are important to them in making sure that each flower variety is cohesive with the rest of the wedding day details.

Now, this may seem odd but think about what you will have after the wedding. What is the one thing you’ll always have? Your wedding pictures.

What floral elements are important for photography?

Even if you are a bride who loves flowers and consider them to be really important, you still probably have a budget that you need to stay within. How do you know where you should spend the bulk of your floral budget? We’ve broken up each section of your wedding day flower needs to help you decide.

Bridal Bouquet

Hands down, your bridal bouquet is the most important floral element of your wedding day. Your bridal bouquet will be in almost every single photo taken. In the most precious moments with your significant other and family, you will be holding your bouquet. Chelsey comments, “From a photography perspective, your bouquet sets the stage for the overall tones, colors, and images for your wedding gallery. It creates a color story and helps set the stage for what your album design will look like. In addition to this, your bridal portraits will be stunning and the bouquet will enhance your images.”

Ceremony

Chelsey suggests, “A great option here is a really cool ceremony arch! You can actually use this arch in your bridal party, family, and bride and groom portraits to get the most bang for your buck. A lot of people also take their ceremony arch and repurpose it at their reception! This is a great place to be specific with your flowers while also saving money.”

Chesley is right, your ceremony designs can be reused for your reception! Even though your ceremony will be the most important part of your wedding day, it will also be the shortest. Finding that balance will be key in ensuring money is well spent on your ceremony flowers. Even though your ceremony is short, we still recommend having flowers. For the same reason as your bridal bouquet; your ceremony flowers will be in every photo from when you say your vows.

Reception

From a florist’s point of view, the reception is where a couple should spend the majority of their flower budget.  Although our couples don’t always agree that reception flowers should be high on the priority list, we encourage that their table designs be thoughtful and impactful. Consider the big picture, as well as making sure your guests have a beautiful centerpiece to look at.

We completely agree with Chelsey on this next point. She mentions, “If you cannot afford to adorn every single table in flowing, lush flowers, another option is to deck out your head table! If you focus on that being above-and-beyond beautiful with hanging greenery, overflowing center florals, and beautiful table settings, it can be a great statement piece for your guests. Then, you can choose smaller floral centerpieces for each table that compliment the larger head table.”

No matter where your floral priorities lie, having a fantastic vendor  team who understands your vision, your goals, and your overall aesthetic is incredibly important. If you haven’t already, make sure to reach out to Chelsey and Jordan Photography for your Cincinnati wedding photography!

Highly recommend Roots Floral Design - absolutely beautiful!

“Kaytee is an absolute GEM! She has so much passion and care for what she does, that you feel like she's a friend more than a vendor. She walks you through each step of the floral process with organization, examples, cost, and detail -- all things that make my detail-oriented heart happy. The end result far exceeded anything we could have hoped for or imagined. ALL. THE. GREENERY. Future brides, run, don't walk to Roots for your wedding. From start to finish, she took care of every single floral need to make our day positively beautiful.”

FROM START TO FINISH, SHE TOOK CARE OF EVERY SINGLE FLORAL NEED.

"Kaytee became so much more than a vendor for us. The first time I met her I felt as though I met a long lost friend. She was the very first vendor I chose for the wedding (even before the venue) and she lived up to all my expectations and went above and beyond.  Each time I met with her I felt confident that she completely comprehended my wants and would fashion them into something that looks put together, yet natural. The day-of she silently transformed a bland rustic space into an enchanting, romantic barn. I couldn't have asked for anything more beautiful or unique."

"Kaytee was so great to work with!!! I provided her with some floral inspirations from Pinterest and Instagram but gave her a lot of free rein coming up with the flowers for our wedding and she went above and beyond expectations. Our photographer was obsessed with all the bouquets and we got so many great pictures of them! She did such a good job making my smaller budget work to make high impact arrangements. She's also the sweetest person to be around!"
