Wedding Tips | Yes, you do need a wedding coordinator

One of the very first questions I ask my brides is if they have a wedding coordinator or planner. As an experienced wedding florist who has designed and seen hundreds of weddings, I know right off the bat that if my couple hired a wedding coordinator for their big day, that the event will go smoothly.

Although you can hire your wedding coordinator or planner to help with colors, vendors, and set up; more importantly you should hire a wedding coordinator or planner to help with your timeline, problems that may arise throughout the day, and the small details that may be overlooked.

To give us more insight into this topic I’ve asked Emily Giancarlo, who operates the Livery, to give us her advice.

“This is the question I am asked the most about as a Venue Manager for the Livery. Being an empty space, where everything needs to be brought in, the short answer is yes. Our venue is a blank canvas where a bride is able to build her dream day from scratch. But with that comes a list of vendors. Caterer, Florist, DJ, Rentals, all of it. Plus a million other questions and details. This can be overwhelming, especially when you have never planned a party for a few hundred before!

The longer answer is simple, do you want a stress free day? Who is going to make sure every box gets checked? Who is going to time your bridal party down the aisle? Who is going to coordinate with all your vendors? No one is saying you can’t pick out the decor, no one is saying your family can’t participate. But the fact remains that wedding coordinators are just that, coordinators! They do more than help you select a color palette or set out the candles. They know events inside and out. They know the gritty details, they know how to handle hiccups during the day. The planners we work with have my number, they can call me with questions, they know my venue inside and out as well. They probably know your other vendors too!

Investing in a planner for a venue like the Livery, that is not turn key, is one of the best pieces of advice I can give to brides. Think of your perfect day like a giant puzzle piece. Only its 500 pieces and you have a limited amount of time to complete it. Why not hire someone who is a puzzle master? You’ll get the venue you’ve dreamed of, the flowers you want, that great caterer and someone working behind the scenes who is driven to make sure everything, like the puzzle pieces, fall into place!”

Emily Giancarlo operates the Livery, a historic venue located off Main Street in downtown Lexington, Kentucky. First built in 1868, it was the original horse stable for the city of Lexington. Emily first got her jumpstart into the wedding industry in 2013 by assisting a professional photographer on the weekends. When she’s not busy shooting or working events, she enjoys spending time with her husband and baby girl.

“Kaytee is an absolute GEM! She has so much passion and care for what she does, that you feel like she's a friend more than a vendor. She walks you through each step of the floral process with organization, examples, cost, and detail -- all things that make my detail-oriented heart happy. The end result far exceeded anything we could have hoped for or imagined. ALL. THE. GREENERY. Future brides, run, don't walk to Roots for your wedding. From start to finish, she took care of every single floral need to make our day positively beautiful.”

FROM START TO FINISH, SHE TOOK CARE OF EVERY SINGLE FLORAL NEED.

"Kaytee became so much more than a vendor for us. The first time I met her I felt as though I met a long lost friend. She was the very first vendor I chose for the wedding (even before the venue) and she lived up to all my expectations and went above and beyond.  Each time I met with her I felt confident that she completely comprehended my wants and would fashion them into something that looks put together, yet natural. The day-of she silently transformed a bland rustic space into an enchanting, romantic barn. I couldn't have asked for anything more beautiful or unique."

"Kaytee was so great to work with!!! I provided her with some floral inspirations from Pinterest and Instagram but gave her a lot of free rein coming up with the flowers for our wedding and she went above and beyond expectations. Our photographer was obsessed with all the bouquets and we got so many great pictures of them! She did such a good job making my smaller budget work to make high impact arrangements. She's also the sweetest person to be around!"
