Most Underrated Wedding Bouquet Flowers You Shouldn’t Overlook

Over the last few decades, couples have commonly followed a few trends when it comes to their wedding flowers. Of course some favorites like roses are a classic choice that may never truly go out of style, but sometimes these popular options start to look all the same.

If you’re hoping to select wedding flowers that will stand out from the crowd, consider using florals that are most often overlooked by other couples. Need a little help with ideas? Here are some of my personal favorites for wedding florals that I believe are more underrated than they should be!

Cosmos

This flower is a smaller bloom like a daisy, but can come in truly striking colors. One type I love to use is the chocolate cosmos, which not only has a beautiful dark reddish brown color (almost like a black velvet) but it even has a chocolate scent!

Butterfly Ranunculus

This is another pretty flower that doesn’t get quite the attention it deserves! The ranunculus butterfly is a lovely option as a secondary bloom for a more organic or garden-style bouquet, since it features multiple flowers on each stem.

Protea

Although this one is starting to gain popularity, it’s still a floral not many brides have heard of. Protea flowers are gorgeous options for focal blooms in a bouquet: their striking look stands out so well among other flowers and is nothing like most other blooms out there! Two of my personal favorite examples include the bouquet we created for Nate and Shannon’s boho mountain wedding last year, and Miquelle and Talon’s wedding featuring one king protea bloom in each bridesmaid bouquet!

Huckleberry

If you’re looking for a beautiful, woodsy option for greenery in your bouquet, consider using huckleberry! These full-bodied leafy stems are a great choice for brides wanting a more natural, earthy look, without relying on the commonly chosen eucalyptus for their bouquet.

Carnations

Carnation flowers with more natural colors are lovely secondary additions to a bridal bouquet. You can see how they look combined with a few other uncommon florals in Rachel’s bridal session bouquet.

Ferns

I love it when couples love greenery as much as I do! There are a variety of ferns out there that can truly make an elegant and organic statement that is just perfect for boho weddings. Definitely a great way to have a style that is unforgettable and completely outside the norm.

Foraged Plants

One of the most underrated florals and greenery for bouquets is the kind we can find while foraging around the venue. Last year for Georgia and Jesse’s mountain wedding in Colorado, we spent an entire day foraging around their family property for some beautiful, natural elements to add in their floral arrangements. It’s definitely a great way to incorporate the season and setting into your bouquet!

Highly recommend Roots Floral Design - absolutely beautiful!

“Kaytee is an absolute GEM! She has so much passion and care for what she does, that you feel like she's a friend more than a vendor. She walks you through each step of the floral process with organization, examples, cost, and detail -- all things that make my detail-oriented heart happy. The end result far exceeded anything we could have hoped for or imagined. ALL. THE. GREENERY. Future brides, run, don't walk to Roots for your wedding. From start to finish, she took care of every single floral need to make our day positively beautiful.”

FROM START TO FINISH, SHE TOOK CARE OF EVERY SINGLE FLORAL NEED.

"Kaytee became so much more than a vendor for us. The first time I met her I felt as though I met a long lost friend. She was the very first vendor I chose for the wedding (even before the venue) and she lived up to all my expectations and went above and beyond.  Each time I met with her I felt confident that she completely comprehended my wants and would fashion them into something that looks put together, yet natural. The day-of she silently transformed a bland rustic space into an enchanting, romantic barn. I couldn't have asked for anything more beautiful or unique."

"Kaytee was so great to work with!!! I provided her with some floral inspirations from Pinterest and Instagram but gave her a lot of free rein coming up with the flowers for our wedding and she went above and beyond expectations. Our photographer was obsessed with all the bouquets and we got so many great pictures of them! She did such a good job making my smaller budget work to make high impact arrangements. She's also the sweetest person to be around!"
