Flower Cost Breakdown

Newly engaged couples are always surprised when it comes to the price of flowers. As a wedding florist who has noticed the lack of knowledge among brides and grooms; I have taken it upon myself to provide more educational resources for my couples. This spring editorial is a first of a series I hope to continue throughout the year. In order to achieve a certain design style that is popular among brides, certain flowers are ordered and used. These flowers start out pricey on a wholesale level. Below, we break down the wholesale cost of this spring centerpiece.

Spring Centerpiece Flower Breakdown

–Keep in mind that wholesale prices fluctuate each week. These are the prices I paid in the month of January. Prices will vary by season, color, variety, wholesaler, and demand. ALL flowers are bought in bunches, meaning floral designers never purchase flowers by the stem. Some variety of flowers are priced per stem (and sold in 5, 10, 20, and 25 stem bunches) and others are priced per bunch. This pricing model is not controlled by florists. Even though individual prices may fluctuate, this estimate is what you can expect to pay on a wholesale level for this type of centerpiece design.–

Focal Blooms:

-Toffee Rose | 2 stems | $3.97 per stem | $7.94 total

-Combo Copper Rose | 5 stems | $2.83 per stem | $14.15 total

Secondary Focal Blooms:

-Butterfly Ranunculus (yellow) | 9 stems | $2.83 per stem | $25.47 total

-Butterfly Ranunculus (blush) | 18 stems | $2.83 per stem | $50.94 total

-Lisianthus | 4 stems | $27.40 per bunch, estimated 40% of bunch used | $10.96 total

Accent Textural Blooms:

-Pepperberry | 4 stems | $13.97 per bunch, estimated 25% of bunch used | $3.49 total

-Hypericum berries | 4 stems | $1.79 per stem | $7.19 total

Accent Whimsy Blooms:

-Sweet Pea |16 stems | $1.87 per stem | $29.92 total

-Ranunculus (peach) | 12 stems | $1.98 per stem | $23.76 total

Greenery:

-Pittosporum Nigra Variegated | 6 stems | $7.58 per bunch, estimated 25% of bunch used | $1.89 total

Total Wholesale Cost: $175.71*

*This price does not include supplies, the rental fee of the centerpiece vessel, or design fee.

Supplies, rental, and design fees all vary with each florist. Mechanics used to design range from floral foam to chicken wire and each have varying price points. Design fees will also range. These fees are based on experience, skill level, design style, among other variables.

Although this centerpiece may seem out of reach for some couples, there are many other centerpiece designs that can be more cost friendly that still give you a garden style look. Stay tuned for next week when we do another flower cost breakdown!
